Rosa Rubiginosa: Why We Only Use Chilean Rosehip Seed Oil

Not all rosehip oil is the same.

Walk into any beauty aisle and you'll find "rosehip oil" on a dozen labels. But the species, the origin, the growing conditions — these things matter deeply. At Seven Seas & Seven Stars, we use only Rosa rubiginosa sourced from Chile, and there's a reason we're specific about it.

What is Rosa Rubiginosa?

Rosa rubiginosa — also called the sweet briar rose — is a wild-growing species native to the Andes of South America. It thrives in high-altitude, cold-climate conditions where the plant develops an exceptionally rich concentration of essential fatty acids, particularly trans-retinoic acid (a natural form of vitamin A), linoleic acid (omega-6), and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3).

These are the compounds that make it one of the most powerful natural anti-aging oils on earth. This is not the same oil as Rosa canina, the more commonly sourced European rosehip. The fatty acid profile is different. The skin behavior is different. The anti-aging results are different.

Why Chile?

The Andean growing region offers something rare: clean air, mineral-rich soil, and cold nights that slow the plant's growth and concentrate its nutrients. Chilean Rosa rubiginosa is cold-pressed from the seeds of wild-harvested fruit — meaning no pesticides, no monoculture farming, no shortcuts.

The result is an oil that is deeply regenerative, fast-absorbing, and rich in the compounds your skin actually uses to repair and renew itself overnight.

How We Use It

You'll find Rosa rubiginosa at the heart of our Celestial Pure Glow Oil Serum and our Cosmic Silk Sealing Serum — two formulas built around the idea that the ocean gives, and the earth restores. The rosehip brings the restoration. It works quietly, deeply, while you sleep — supporting the skin's natural anti-aging renewal cycle.

We don't use it because it's trending. We use it because nothing else does what it does.

Intentional. Layered. Composed.
